Coaching for Professional Services Marketers
Visit the Marketer As Leader website to learn more about the unique program created by Martha Carnahan, founder of BrilliantVisions and Jodie Charlop, founder of PotentialMatters.
As a marketer for a professional services organization (accounting firm, law firm, consulting firm, engineering, architecture or construction management company), you play a pivotal role for your firm. Unlike marketers who help their firms sell “widgets,” you are selling services provided by people. Therefore you are in the unique – and highly stressful – position of serving your service producers (the accountants, lawers, engineers, etc.) AND serving your firm’s clients. Whew, you need to be a combination of psychologist, mind-reader, juggler, artist, high-tech guru, magician, short-order cook and influential strategist. What a job description!
- Most importantly, to be both effective and fulfilled in your role, you must step into your leadership as a marketer.
- Are you seen as a leader in your firm?
- Do you struggle with managing your many bosses?
- Do you frequently find yourself working late to put together yet another last minute marketing effort that one of the partners got excited about?
- Are you directing your firm’s marketing process strategically? Or are you in reaction most of the time?
To be treated as a leader in your firm, you must first see yourself as a leader. YOU are the marketing expert, the go-to guru of all things marketing. You possess knowledge and experience that will absolutely benefit the firm – but are you stepping up, into the shoes of Marketer as Leader? Or are you falling into the rut of being follower of your many bosses?
I have walked in your shoes (and more!). I spent 10 years of my career as Marketing Director in professional services firms — an architectural/engineering firm and a healthcare financial management consulting firm. As a marketing consultant, I have worked closely with accounting firms, A/E firms, IT firms and related associations. As a journalist, I have written both marketing copy and content-rich articles for publications directed to the accounting profession. I understand firsthand the level of demand placed on the marketing function in the professional services environment.
Are you ready to step into your leadership role as a professional services marketer? As your coach, I will work with you to take your career – and your firm’s success – to the next level.
